About us
We built TattooDesignr because the design phase of getting a tattoo is broken — and AI finally made it possible to fix.
If you've ever wanted a tattoo, you know the drill. You spend weeks on Pinterest. You save 80 references that "kind of" capture the vibe. You walk into a tattoo shop, try to explain it, and the artist sketches something close-but-not-quite. You wait two weeks for revisions. The artist charges $200-500 for the design alone — before any ink touches skin. By the time you're in the chair, you've spent more on the design phase than on the actual tattoo.
Meanwhile every other creative discipline got AI-accelerated in the last three years. Logos, presentations, product photos, marketing copy — minutes, not weeks.
Tattoo design didn't. Until now.
Tattoo artists are craftspeople. They read your skin tone, scale a design to your anatomy, mix inks for healing, sterilize equipment, refuse designs that won't age well. None of that can be replaced by AI — and we're not trying to.
What we are trying to replace is the slow, expensive design-consultation phase that sits between "I want a tattoo" and "I have a tattoo." The hours of Pinterest scrolling. The $300 design consultation fees. The 2-week back-and-forth before any chair time. That phase doesn't need a craftsperson — it needs a fast, cheap, infinite-iteration creative partner.
AI gives you 90% of the obvious answer in 30 seconds. Human artists give you the 10% that makes the design actually yours.
You could prompt ChatGPT or Midjourney for tattoo designs. Many people do. Most of those outputs fail when they hit a tattoo artist's chair — the lines are too thin to ink, the gradients won't heal, the contrast is wrong, the detail is anatomically incorrect, the design doesn't follow tattoo flash conventions.
We trained models specifically on:
The result: designs your tattoo artist will actually use. We've heard this from over a hundred clients now — they show up with a TattooDesignr printout and the artist says "oh, this is workable" instead of "we need to redesign this."
Tattoos are sacred. A tattoo is one of the few permanent decisions you'll make for yourself. Our job is to help you make it well — not push you to commit faster.
Privacy is non-negotiable. We don't store your prompts. We don't store your reference photos. We don't track you across the web. The moment you download your designs, every byte is gone from our servers. Forever. We chose this architecture deliberately because we wouldn't want our own faces and ideas sitting on someone else's server, either.
Tattoo artists deserve a cut. Our Studio License lets working tattoo artists use TattooDesignr to accelerate their own consultations with clients. Lower cost than a designer, faster than sketching by hand, and the artist keeps full creative control over the final piece. We've seen artists cut their consultation time in half.
Honesty over hype. Read our disclaimer — we're upfront about what AI gets right, what it gets wrong, and where your tattoo artist's judgment trumps the AI's. We'd rather lose a sale than ship a design that fails on skin.
TattooDesignr is a small founder-led team. No VCs, no growth-hack agency, no "Series A round" headlines. We pay our own AI infrastructure bills, we read every customer email personally, and we ship features when they're ready, not when a launch calendar says so.
We're not tattoo artists ourselves — we have tattoos, we love the culture, and we have deep respect for the craft. That's why every product decision goes through one filter: would a working tattoo artist roll their eyes at this? If yes, we cut it.
Real humans answer real emails: hello@tattoodesignr.com. We respond within 24 hours, usually faster.
Found a bug? Disagree with a design choice? Have a tattoo idea you can't translate? Have feedback for the AI? Email us. We read everything.
